CONCERT SUCCESS
Thursday 16th Jan 2003, evening time
Queens School - Wednesday 15th Jan - 7.30pm By invitation of the Chester Music Society With a tremendous opening set by the training band, conducted by Paula Bell, the band started the first concert in the 150th year. Programmes (produced with he aid of Plain Design and Babcock), were sold in aid of our charity partner The Hospice of The Good Shepherd, raising £44. Karen Urmston, the Hospice Fund Raising Manager, thanked the band, and presented Diaries and Hospice Badges for the band to wear throughout the year. The main band performed a full programme, ranging from a light march by Eric Ball through to the recent hit by Geri Haliwell, It's Raining Men. Highlight of the evening included Derek Mitchell (MD) winning 2 Mars bars in the musical quiz, and the appearance (much to Derek's surprise), of 2 'Nuns' in the shape of Lizzie and Lauren (3rd cornets) - from the back of the hall during the Sister Act number; I Will Follow Him! Great night... thanks to the Chester Music Society for the invite - yep we'd like to come back. The night was also the first outing for the revamped band photo display, and the new 150th anniversary stickers - now available at £1 from Christopher Clowes at rehearsals. Note the band display was for one night only for now, as the band is in need of professional demountable display boards - loan ones being used for the night. All offers to Ian Clowes please.
