Contesting
Over the years Chester has competed at the highest levels, including a fabled visit to the Albert Hall (see photo right). More of this in our band history section as it builds over the coming years.
In recent years the band has had a quieter period in contesting, dropping to the 4th section in 1999. However since then the band has rebuilt, and over the last few years has had significant contest success, resulting in promotion back to the 3rd section in 2002. The band is currently sitting mid-table in the North West Area Brass Band Association listings following a good performance in 2006 and a mid-section performance in 2007. The band also did well competing in the famous Whit Marches in 2006. Playing the march 'Raby' the band was placed amongst some very well known higher-section bands.
Contesting really develops the ensemble playing within the band, and a good performance on the day excites both young and old. For more information on The City of Chester and contesting; contact Rob Fletcher.
One of the biggest challenges when contesting is meeting the cost of contest entrance fees together with the cost of travel to contests. Sponsorship is always welcome. Why not sponsor our next trip to the Regionals in March 2008 and then join us for the Finals in September!
Before that the band will be playing Northern Landscapes on Nov 3rd 07 at Pontins!
